Enamelled coin (Chile Peso) in silver-gilt swivel brooch, Birmingham, 1891.
The frame bears the Birmingham mark of 1891 and a sponsor's mark.
Obverse: engraved with an eagle within a background painted in green enamel around which is the motto 'POR LA RAZON O LA FUERZA' : below the eagle within two stars the date 1891. The eagle is clutching in one claw a shield on which are fasces(ensigns of authority or power) surrounded by crosses.
Reverse:Within a circle are engraved the arms of Chili surmounted by three ostrich feathers and below a laurel wreath set against a cobalt blue enamelled background. The motto 'REPUBLICA DE CHILE & UN PESO runs within the border of the coin in a band of red enamel.
The coin in a silver gilt setting with beading round the edge. The reverse has a brooch pin and a small ring, possibly for fixing on a necklace. The frame is cast with bead work. The coin has a milled edge.
