Bronze stauette of the Christ Child

The figure has been assigned to the Nuremberg foundry of Pankraz Labenwolf (b. 1492; d. 1563) because of its close resemblance to the bronze statuette of a boy surmounting the fountain in the courtyard of the Nuremberg Town Hall signed by Labenwolf in 1556 The Labenwolf foundry depended for its model on sculptors working in wood. The wooden model for the statuette of the Town Hall fountain survives in the museum of Nuremberg (attributed to the Nuremberg sculptor Hans Peisser, c. 1503-c. 1571), and the Christ Child shows all the signs of having been cast from a similar wooden model.
