Obi of brocaded silk, Japan, 19th century

Obi of brocaded silk with a brown corded ground and a repeating pattern in red, green, black, pink, white and gold depicting an archer amid flowers on a bridge, above which is a scene with water, rocks and flowers. Above this is a scene with a lion amid flowers and butterflies. The front is a complete piece of silk with nine repeats. The back is formed by two pieces of the silk separated by a band of black satin.
