Textile panel of brocaded silk tapestry-woven in coloured silks and gold thread, China, ca. 1736-1795

Textile panel of brocaded silk tapestry-woven in coloured silks and gold thread. The upper part is rectangular shape, and the lower has a wide opening in the front of undulating outline. The pattern on the upper part is in colours on a ground of various shades of blue. It consists of gourds and gourd foliage, about which flit four bats, and on the left is a fungus and the right is a narcissus, both sacred to Taoism. Blue border including coral, bats and peaches.
