seated Buddha; Sculpture, bronze, Burma, C19
Seated Buddha on a lotus throne. The upturned left hand resting in his lap holds a fruit (fig or myrobolans?) between the forefinger and thumb. The right hand in "earth witness" gesture, "Bhumisparsa mudra", holds a myroboloans between the forefinger and thumb - there are also little balls wedged at the tips of the other fingers. The head is surmounted with a pointed pinnacle. Cast by the cire perdue process and incised with a graver.
