Sugar caster and cover of buff earthenware covered with a tin glaze and painted in enamel colours. Probably made at the factory of Frau de Becke. German, Ludwigsburg, 1765-1775.

The caster is piriform, standing on a pedestal foot, and both are roughly octagonal in section; alternate sides being fluted. The screw-cover is pierced with rosette forms and groups of holes picked out in blue, crimson and yellow and is surmounted by a green pineapple knob. The painted decoration consists of a bouquet and smaller sprays of flowers and leaves in purple-yellow, green, blue, red and crimson.
