Print of the actress Ellen Terry (1874-1928) as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth by William Shakespeare. Sepia print of an original portrait of the actress painted by John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) in 1889. It is a full length back and white print showing Terry, wearing the bettlewing trimmed costume made famous by this performance. The actress is holding a crown above her head.

Sepia print of an original portrait of the actress painted by John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) in 1889, circa 1890. The original portrait is held by Tate Britain. This oil painting captures the original tones of Terry's costume including green irrisdescent sheen of the beetle wing cases with which Terry's dress was covered. The costume itself survives in the Terry's old home, now a National Trust property, Smallhythe Place, Kent. The scene depicted never featured in the play, and was invented by Sargent for the portrait.
