Portrait sketch of Viven Leigh, drawn by Margaret Male, ca. 1950. Vivien Leigh (1913 - 1967) is one of the most celebrated actors of the 20th century. Born in India and educated in Europe, Leigh trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made her stage debut in 1935. In 1939, she won the role of Scarlett O’Hara in the highly anticipated film version of Gone with the Wind (1939).
